TiVo Tips: How to get the most out of your TiVo
Watch your Netflix DVD's on your TiVO (and send them back for more!)
What? You can do that? YES YOU CAN!
It's really easy actually, although it will take
a little bit of time to get everything processed. We suggest doing
this overnight because it will "occupy" your computer for a while.
Here's how to do it.
2) Download a conversion tool like WinXMedia
DVD Ripper . This will allow you to convert your Rented DVD's
into the supported MGEG format for your Tivo.
3) Make sure you have TivoToGo Active and installed.
You'll need to be able to send and receive Video files to and from
your Tivo.
4) Inset your disc and start ripping. Make sure
you've set your ripper to encode in MPEG2 format. Nothing else will
work unfortunately. Save this file to your TiVo to Go folder (My Tivo
Recordings)
5) Once the DVD is ripped go to your Tivo, access
your Computers Tivo Recordings File and transfer your movie over to
your Tivo and now you can watch DVD's on your Tivo at your own leisure.
A Few Tips
WideScreen Movies on Standard TV's: Sometimes you'll
see that widescreen movies can be squished on to your standard TV making
everyone look way too tall. If this happens to you, try changing the
aspect settings on your Ripper program to a different setting and
test it again.
Error's while trying to load the DVD into
the Ripper: If you get an error while trying to load your DVD into your ripper,
all hope is not lost. Many times, if you close your ripper and open
your DVD with window media player, close it and open the ripper again,
that will fix it. Sometimes it wont though, that's just the nature
of digital media. Every now and then you'll find a movie you just can't
rip.
Space Issues: If you have a ton of recorded shows
on your Tivo, you want to save as much space as possible. May DVD ripping
programs will allow you to break your movie into smaller chunks. Consider
making each chunk 1000 megs each (usually 2 or 3 files for a movie).
This way you won't have to fill up your hard drive all at once. Especially
useful if you don't plan on watching the entire movie in one sitting.
