TiVo and Amazon Unbox offer Movie Downloads to your Tivo!
Tivo and Amazon Join Forces
It has just recently been announced that TiVo subscribers are now able to download movies and television shows from Amazon's UnBox Service directly to their TiVo's. I have tried this service already and have been very impressed. The movie downloaded quickly and worked perfectly. I did a rental for a mere $3.99.
Now it's time for the Bettr.tv Opinion. While we are very happy that TiVo has partnered with a movie download service, we were disappointed to learn that it was amazon as opposed to NetFlix. We would have much rather seen the ability to add your netflix movies to your TiVo as an alternative to having them shipped. While we acknowledge that the reality of such an undertaking may have been enormous and very difficult to coordinate etc, now that Netflix has released their Streaming Video service (we'll review that later on) we feel that it could have been done. Oh well, at least you can still watch netflix movies on your TiVo (read how).
If you don't have a TiVo yet, we highly suggest you get one. It's not just a DVR. If you have a DVR from your cable or satellite company and think you have a "TiVo" you are sorely mistaken. For example, can you browse thru all of the photos on your computer with your cable company DVR? Or how about accessing your entire music library on your cable company DRV? Can you check traffic? Play games? Play fantasy football? Can you buy movie tickets? If you answered "no" to even ONE of those questions, you don't have a read DVR. You have a poor replica of a TiVo.
